Interview With...

Bob Olson: What label or description do you give yourself when a stranger asks what you do for work? 

Laura Scott: I am a psychic, spiritual teacher and channel for healing.  I provide insight on your life journey and specialize in the work of the soul. I am here to inspire others to know their highest truths and to remember, even if only in glimpses, the Truth about who they are and why they came here. My role is as a conduit for Divine.  I have also been called a channel, and a galactic conduit because I was born under the Mayan astrological sign of the Cib (keeb). Those born with this birth print have highly attuned intuition and serve as galactic conduits for Divine communication from Spirit. Cibs excel in giving enlightened advice, and in making good judgments for others. My gifts include knowing where the obstructions are that block energy flow and create stress for people.  I can see inside a situation, and offer new perspective on why things are the way they are and what needs to happen to facilitate change and soul growth.

Bob Olson: When did you first recognize that you had this gift?

Laura Scott: I have always known from a very young age that I was seeing, hearing, and knowing things that those around me were not.  But being empathic in a family of younger souls was pretty confusing; it got me into some real difficulty and caused a lot of inner turmoil for me as a child. My natural abilities of 'knowing too much' made the adults in my life quite uncomfortable. As a result, I learned during those years to keep much of what I psychic-ly knew close to myself.

I became what I call "broken open" as a result of a series of traumatic events in my twenties: First, and perhaps most importantly, I fell 1,000% head over heels in love and got married. This was a major catalyst because with this love came a whole new wave of 'knowing', AND for the first time in my life I felt safe and encouraged to be myself and let it unfold further.  Also during this time,  I went through a number of life altering events including 2 car accidents, a brush with cancer, and more. Then, as I turned 30 my beloved husband had a breakdown, and overnight my world was turned upside down and ripped from me.  Everything changed.

As I made my way through that dark time, intensely grieving, I was struggling desperately to reconcile what I knew psychically as the Highest Truths, with the earthly reality that was thrust upon me.  For a while I was in shock and mad at God;  but I couldn't maintain it for long.  A deep and profound spiritual awakening began  taking place inside of me.  Certainly I had to navigate through my own painful soul lessons of grief, free will, heartache and absolute loss...no doubt about it.  And there were definitely moments when it was far from pretty as I wriggled and fought the flow.  But strangely enough,  I also found myself beginning to fill with a sense of peace, and calm.  I had an unshakable knowing that began to emerge---that out of this situation, something important and good would come.

And indeed it did. I began to understand my real life work, my soul's purpose, and my responsibility to be available to it.  With the passage of time, my grieving and loss became replaced with something much bigger, infinite and beyond words.  I met The Committee, a group of Higher Ascended Beings on the Other Side, who work in service of God, and realized I was beginning the next phase of my life journey. One that would take me to un-thought of places, and on as yet un-imagined adventures, and that I would travel it with Them as a partnership.

In retrospect, coming out of grief was like slowly waking up from a dream.  As the veil of grief lifted, my gifts became so undeniable that I got myself out of the way, and eventually 'came out.'  And guess what? None of my friends were surprised...instead they all asked me what took me so long?! It seems they could see the Universe calling me to step out into the limelight long before I could... All my life, people would naturally gravitate towards me, and look to me for help and insight. Now I understand why.

Bob Olson: When did you begin doing this work professionally?
 
Laura Scott: Over a decade ago.

Bob Olson: Have you had any formal training or instruction for this work?
 
Laura Scott: Mostly, I am blessed to be what's called "a natural."

In addition, I am also quite an old soul, and a perpetual inquisitor of life. Over the years, I have had the opportunity to know various practicing psychics and light workers from around the world, some of whom became friends, teachers and mentors along the way, and others who inadvertently taught me by poor example.  They are all in some way part of the tapestry that is me, and out of every experience, be it positive or negative, I learned more about how to be myself.

I respect that other mediums may have a need to study prodigiously, equally as much as I respect that for others, knowing is knowing. period.

Bob Olson: What other educational degrees, certifications or learned skills do you have that help you in this work?

Laura Scott: I teach and speak about meditation, affirmations, intuition, Lessons of Earth School and Universal Laws, lead Groups, create custom tapes for people in life crisis, volunteer with souls in trouble, organize retreats for women, write a spiritual advice column with a readership of 200,000, give private readings and channeling, and public speaking events. I view my life as an active, ongoing education, and everyday I am learning more not only about my own journey, but the struggle of others.  The day I stop learning is the day I go Home.

For those that need some letters, I have a BFA, I am certified in Health Intuition, Bach Flower Counseling, and a Reiki Master/Teacher.

Bob Olson: What is your intention or motivation for doing this work?

Laura Scott: To provide insight on your life journey. To help assist people with the next steps in their personal soul development. Once you have had enough confirmation from the Other Side that life is a continuum, the next step of the soul's evolutionary progress is to start approaching your day to day and overall life with a deeper understanding and new found insights.  As a humanitarian, there is nothing more fulfilling to me than helping and inspiring others. I guess you could also say that another part of my motivation is to actively live my own life purpose and to be in sync with the flow of the Universe.  Is that too esoteric?

Bob Olson: What do you find most fulfilling about this work that you do?

Laura Scott: Hearing from those who's lives I've touched, and how because I have helped in some small way, they have progressed.

Bob Olson: How long do your readings last and why did you choose this length of time?

Laura Scott: Private readings last about an hour. Group or family sessions may run longer. I no longer offer 1/2 hour sessions, because to be fair, for this type of deeper soul work, a 1/2 hour is simply not enough time to get the full benefit of what I do.  And I don't want to short change or minimize the importance of ANYONE's life work by having to rush through their session.

I know that there are a lot of other mediums offering 10, 15, or even 20 minute consultations, and for a certain audience, this is helpful enough.  But since I feel my work involves the bigger pictures and the deeper questions--you won't find a drive through window here. There are no shortcuts to the work of the soul.  And although I could easily earn a living doing these short, surface readings, I feel obligated not to.

Bob Olson: What can one expect during a normal reading with you?

Laura Scott: Sorry Bob, but there is no such thing as normal.  Isn't it a relief to know that?! For the time being, everyone is as unique as their own DNA.  No two fingerprints alike.  Therefore, no two sessions are ever alike. Not even 2 sessions with the same person are ever exactly alike, because life is a continuum and change is constant.  But these are bigger philosophical concepts that we don't really have time for here.  Suffice it to say that even if the subject matter remains the same, insights will be restated in new ways in hopes to achieve better client understanding.

I do not remember each and every bit of client sessions. I think if I did, I would need a wagon to carry an extra fold out section of my brain! For the sake of reader clarification, I will generalize:

Often, when I begin a phone session with someone I have never met, I will ask them to read through their entire list of specific questions as we begin.  This raises their vibration, and helps clarify their intentions.  Sometimes, I will jump in with immediate answers, never letting them finish their list.  In these cases, by the time I am done interrupting and relaying information, clients often find that many of their other questions have already been answered.

Other times, after hearing all the questions, the guides steer me in an entirely opposite direction, i.e. a health issue, or an emotional block in the body.  Interestingly enough, this somehow always relates on a more profound level to where a client is at, more so than adhering to their tangent questions.  We like to work at the core of things, on the trunk of the tree if you will, and leave clients open to exercise their own free will in terms of shifting their gaze off the leaves, berries and branches. An example of this is the client who tentatively asks about the state of their marriage.  In turn, they may be given new found insight and understanding about why they have chosen the partner they did, their partner's role or life themes, how they impact the client's own soul work, past lives with them, and what they need to be working on in a broader sense to learn more about themselves.  As you can tell by my answers, I also use a lot of imagery and metaphor work to help clients. Indeed, there is no such thing as a simple question, and those willing to ask more specific ones often get the most from these sessions.

In many cases, although readings are "conversational" (as in I sound 'normal'... whatever the heck that is...). But what is happening is a multi-part series of conversations. I am listening to the client, my guides, their guides, and The Committee, and even loved ones and Angels and then relaying the information to you. It appears to me as a type of sitting room, and as some entities feel the urge to be more individually heard, they step forward and do so, and I will relay their message.  Other times, there is mutual agreement and cooperation and although the 'sitting room' is full, everything is getting neatly funneled and relayed through me as a cohesive unit.  This doesn't mean that your guide or loved ones weren't there, it just means that they were in agreement and pleased with my relay work.

If The Committee feels it is important that they speak directly with the client, I will let the client know what to expect.  My voice will change, as will my tone, dialect and inflection.  The Committee always comes through with much love, respect and understanding.  They are neither solely male or female in nature.  For deeper trance work in person, you might see my face twitching or see me rocking slightly back and forth.  None of this hurts or effects me in any way, it is merely how I let the channel stay open.  My eyes are mostly closed, and when The Committee speaks they use my vocal cords and facial smiling muscles a lot.  They will often answer a question by posing a larger question back.  Sometimes they will not answer a question as asked until you restate it clarifying what it is you really want to know.  Many have felt a strong presence in the room when they appear, and are often deeply moved or overwhelmed by this.

Most often, clients can also expect to leave their sessions with tools and homework suggestions.  That's because no one can do your individual soul work for you.  You have to do it yourself. These tool or homework can be from channeled affirmations, to dietary advice, to humor and a more practical use of post it notes. It runs the gamut. This is why I feel that taping sessions is so important to my work.  By the end of a session, clients can be "lit up like a Christmas tree" and  there is no way they could absorb every nuance of all that has transpired. Having a tape of your session is a tool to reach for over and over again, and each time you play it, you may glean something more.

In addition to the above mentioned items, I also have the ability to see and identify which Bach Flower Remedies are essential to a soul's progress at this time.  Bach flower essences are a safe, non-toxic, non-habit forming healing system of energetic and vibrational medicine that provides relief to millions worldwide. The system was designed to help people, children, animals and plants, and it works to create emotional balancing and repatterning.  Dr. Bach was a respected physician in England who began to notice connections and patterns between the physical symptoms that his patients had, with emotional imbalances.  Although Dr. Bach's work was conceived more than 70 years ago, many believe that because he was Divinely inspired, that the work was not only ahead of its' time, but it has withstood the test of time, and become the benchmark to which other essences must measure.

In the case of seeing someone has an essence need during their session,  I will often give them the choice to take down the names of the specific items and purchase them individually at their local health store, or the option of my making them a custom remedy compilation and instructions that can be sent along with their tape.

Bob Olson: How is a reading with you "similar" to what people see on TV when John Edward gives a reading on his show "Crossing Over With John Edward?"

Laura Scott: Depending on the situation and where you are at on your life journey, loved ones you know may or may not come through during your session.

Laura Scott: My work is a step or two beyond confirmation of the afterlife. Relatives or loved ones may come through, but this is rarely the sole point of sessions.  Along with my guides & yours, loved ones, and angels, I channel a group called The Committee. The Committee is a group of Higher Ascended Beings on the Other Side who work in service of God. They come together from beyond the Pleiades to offer insight and understanding for our soul growth. 

I tend to get full amounts of information, more like the whole story or several chapters in a story, versus disassociated fragments of words, sentences or imagery. If it is relevant, there may also be extensive past life information shared, health information, as well as suggestions for 'homework' to help keep a person moving with more balance.  I also have the ability to see which Bach Flower essences will improve a client's emotional or soul situation at a glance.

Bob Olson: What instructions do you give new clients before a reading?

Laura Scott: To help prepare, it is important to please begin working on a written list of specific questions that you would like assistance with. These can be anything from physical health problems to relationship issues, philosophical questions, meeting your guides, or any current situations you are working on in your life.  If you ask simply, "how am I doing?" without fail the guides will answer "fine." The answers They provide are based on your willingness to form specific questions and their responses are geared toward your level of understanding.

You can help the process by being in a relaxed state, and reflecting on how you have been feeling emotionally before you call.  Try not to schedule your reading in the middle of your work day, or from your car phone between work appointments.   Please take a few minutes to slow down, and have your questions ready. If it is meant for you to know, you will know. If not, you will get other pertinent soul instruction.

Understand that you are an integral part of this sacred process, and if you approach your session with an open heart and mind things will go smoothly. Over 90% of my readings are now done over the phone for clientele who live all over the US and beyond. I do not need to be with a person in order to see their information. Your phone experience will be quite fruitful and productive, providing you follow these suggestions. 

Bob Olson: Is there anything about your gift or abilities that is unique from most other psychics or mediums?  

Laura Scott: My work is quite unique because I work directly with a group of Ascended Masters, called The Committee. They come, along with your guides and mine, to assist you on your life journey.  I do not use props, cards, astrology, etc. and I focus beyond the immediate to intertwine it into a bigger, multi-faceted life picture for you.  While other mediums may speak in monosyllables, and fractured phrases, hopping all around subjects and topics, my readings tend to be more like a full story unto themselves.  Although no two readings are ever alike, there is typically a beginning, a middle, and an end.

Bob Olson: If you do events, seminars, workshops, lectures or retreats, tell us about them. What are they like, how often do you do them and how do people benefit from attending them?

Laura Scott: I teach and lecture on various topics that help with the progress of the soul.  Subjects like: Surviving Earth School, and Getting in Sync with the Universal Laws as well as incorporating meditation, affirmation, manifesting, and intuition workouts. There is more info. for these on my website.  My goal in all of these events is to use my gifts of insight, humor and candor to teach, inform and empower people.  The healthier everyone gets, the better the world is for all of us!

I run Women's Unfoldment Retreats twice a year in the Bahamas.  There is a wealth of beautiful information about this on my website, so instead, I will tell you a bit about why I do them.  In my daily work I notice a great number of women (and men) operating at 100 m.p.h. and putting the needs of themselves very low, or even last on their priority list.  The goal of the retreats is to provide an environment for tending to and unfolding the self--you know the one you pack down and push aside every day in the name of getting stuff done?  My retreat have:  a safe, loving space to let emotions surface and be released, respect of the body's rest requirements, good nutrition, laughter, incredible beaches, privacy, wonderful island energy, daily opportunities to learn and to share, like-minded quests, private readings, the exquisite sea, dolphins, manta rays, and the supportive community that so many lack in their crammed to the gills, day-to-day lives.

How do people benefit from this retreat?  Participants have unequivocally called these retreats life changing, and often leave with new found bonds to last a lifetime. Some report major life shifts as a result of their reconnecting with their heart space.

I also facilitate trips each year to swim with wild dolphins in the Bahamas and teach sound healing. There's a lot of information on these adventures on my website, along with over 100 photos of wild dolphins and the Bahamas. I really love the magical energy these trips have. We're based off of Bimini Island which Edgar Cayce spoke of extensively in his channelings. The energy vortexes on and around Bimini are some of the best in the world. It's a special place and we attract dolphin lovers and spiritual seekers from all over the world. It gives me a very unique opportunity to teach and administer sound healing with Tibetan singing bowls and bells under the starlit Bahamian sky, which is the perfect compliment to the energetic attunements the dolphins and vortexes give us all week. Plus the Bahamian people are just wonderful.

Bob Olson: Is there anything you would like people to know about you or your gift that we have not yet discussed?

Laura Scott: People ask me why I call myself a channel for healing.  After all, it does sound just a tad ostentatious.  Well, first and foremost, because this is what my own guides and The Committee regularly refer to me as.  Secondly because over and over again I was told this by many people, psychics, mediums and channels who through varying degrees of "Serendipity" would wind their way across my path as I was unfolding.

At first I felt awfully uncomfortable owning this moniker.  I thought, "who am I to say I can heal anything?" Believe me, I asked myself over and over. But just when I would talk myself out of ever even considering it, another person would reach out to thank me for my presence in their life, or for my insightful words.  It began to get ridiculous...remember I told you that everyone knew it but me before I 'came out'?
I still laugh about this and shake my head.

Finally, it began to become clear: I am not saying that I can heal anything. Only God and the individual involved have the inside track on that.  What I am saying is that I allow myself to work as a conduit, or a catalyst for healing to occur. I've learned that healing is so much more than my own limited, initial, earthly, assumptions.  Healing is another Universal Word for progress.  It is not capable of being quantified by earthly gadgets or measuring systems.  It is about letting in flickering bits of realizations and Truths that move you to new levels both here, and beyond.  This is how the Universe defines healing--as a form of progress. Healing of the soul involves balancing and integrating the mind, body and spirit.  And this is what I show up for every day: to help teach and encourage people to do it.
