Bob Olson: What label or description do you give
yourself when a stranger asks what you do for work?
Danielle MacKinnon: Oh! It depends on who I'm
talking to! No, just joking. I'm very open about what I
do for work and since I love it so much, people are
always very receptive. If I'm in a hurry (like just
trying to run through the line at the bank) I'll just
say I am a consultant but if I have time to delve into
it, I tell people I am an Intuitive Consultant and that
I work with both people and animals. When I say that,
it's never a two second conversation though!
Bob Olson: When did you first recognize that you
had this gift?
Danielle MacKinnon: It's an odd question you ask
because there are really two parts to the answer. I knew
that I was intuitive with animals - and with people,
from a very early age - but at that time I really didn't
think it was a gift. It made me different and as a
child, being "different" never feels like a
gift! It wasn't until about ten years ago that I
realized that
being able to "be" in this way (work, play,
live) would not only relieve me of the years of
depression I had battled - it would allow me to help
others (which I had a huge desire to do). Mind you, I
just made it sound like I had this "ah-ha!"
moment one morning while eating Cheerios - but it really
wasn't like that. It took the sickness of one of my dogs
to bring me to a place where I was ready to accept that
being different was OK and that this was how I was
different.
Bob Olson: Have you had any formal training or
instruction for this work?
Danielle MacKinnon: I did take an Animal Communication class as well
as Reiki - but those really were only my jumping off
points. It's the same with grad school and my MBA - it
was just a jumping off point for starting my own
business. To me, I don't find it valuable to list off
that I am a Reiki Master or that I know this type of
healing or that type of healing. Most of what I know and
use every day with my clients, I have learned from my
day to day work and my own intuitive guidance. This is
why my work is so unique - I didn't learn it from
someone else - it just developed as I allowed it to.
Bob Olson: What is your intention or motivation
for doing this work?
Danielle MacKinnon: Well, first I can tell you
that if I weren't doing this work, I would be a very sad
person. For years and years growing up and into
adulthood I was plagued with anxiety attacks and
depression. Once I opened up to being intuitive, my
anxiety and depression went away. So, in one sense my
motivation is selfish: if I don't help others be the
best, happiest person they can be, I can't be the best,
happiest person I can be. In the
end, I just want to look back and say I did exactly what
I came into this life to do: assist others.
Bob Olson: How long do your sessions last and why
did you choose this length of time?
Danielle MacKinnon: Here's where my Gemini nature
comes in to play. I am a very forgetful, light-hearted
goofy person on one hand (hence - my sessions, even when
they're about difficult challenges are also very
enjoyable) while on the other hand - I like my
organization. My sessions are 55 minutes long (on the
dot!). I do not go over. This allows me five minutes in
between clients to disconnect, re-ground and often let
my dogs out.
Bob Olson: What can one expect during a normal
session with you?
Danielle MacKinnon: The personality of the person
(or person and their animal) I am working with will
initially set the tone. People are often nervous for
their first session-but after a couple minutes with me,
they usually relax. Although I like organization in a
session, I'm not one to limit participation so asking
questions during the session is an important
piece. Also, I'm an interrupter - so if you're planning
on a session with me, just get ready for me to start
talking whenever the information comes in my head (which
can sometimes be inconvenient!) I like to look at the
energy of the person or animal prior to having my
clients ask questions though, so the beginning of any
reading is really about me connecting and letting the
person know what comes up right off the bat. After that,
I pay attention to where we're directed to go - and we
go there. It's an interesting mix of my goofball-ness
with my organization skills crossed with my intuitive
guidance. Always an eye-opening 55 minutes!
Bob Olson: What instructions do you give new
clients before a reading?
Danielle MacKinnon: Hmmm... the short list of
preparation would be:
1. Be in a calm place emotionally as
well as physically!
2. Make sure you are alone.
3. Bring questions. Many people
totally forget what they wanted to talk
about the moment we get on the phone!
4. Record your session using a free
conference system - it's way better than
taking notes!
5. Visit the Session Preparation page
of my website for a lot more detail.

Bob Olson: Is there anything about your gift or
abilities that are unique from most other psychics or
mediums?
Danielle MacKinnon: Well, first, most psychics
and mediums don't have the educational background that I
have (BA, business school etc.) - not that that makes me
any better than anyone else. It just means I have a
different perspective on things and can very easily
connect in with those people who live and work in more
traditional environments.
Secondly, - what I was talking
about earlier: I am a true goofball at heart (and no
matter how hard
I've tried in the past, I can't escape it!) but I've
combined that with great skills at being organized. This
means that I am able to navigate a lot of
"gunk" in a reading very easily - while still
making the client feel at ease - even possibly getting
them to laugh about it. (And YOU know Bob - I did this
with you. I'm still amazed at some of your own
resistance! But we
are laughing about it!).
And third, most of the
information, tools, techniques and ideas that I work
with every day have come from my intuition and although
this is very different from how others have worked, I
feel it's benefited me greatly in allowing me to just
create this business into what it has become today.
Something that I absolutely love as a tool for helping
others.
Bob Olson: If you do classes, events, seminars,
workshops, lectures or retreats, tell us about them.
What are they like, how often do you do them and how do
people benefit from attending them?
Danielle MacKinnon: I teach various classes,
speak at events, give workshops and lectures, and lead
retreats throughout the year. Because my clients are
located all over the world, I have made my most popular
classes available through my websites as audio/video web
classes. I also lead telegatherings and my animal
communication practice group on a monthly basis. The
online classes are available any day/any time - which is
a really great benefit.
I've led classes over the phone as well - but that can
be difficult for clients on the other side of the globe.
When I teach or lecture, I like for people to walk away
with concrete action steps - or having gained a new
perspective - that's always my goal.
Bob Olson: How does one contact you to set up an
appointment for a reading? Please include your website
address.
Danielle MacKinnon: The (preferred) fastest and
easiest way to set up a session appointment is to use my
online scheduling system found through my website: www.daniellemackinnon.com.
It shows my availability real-time. To schedule an
appointment through my assistant, call (866) 883-2280
(toll-free) - however this is not nearly as efficient as
scheduling online!
